Blink is a 2007 Doctor Who episode centered on single-episode characters Sally Sparrow and Larry Nightingale, who find themselves stalked by Weeping Angels. It was written by Steven Moffat and features the Tenth Doctor and Martha Jones.
Blink received high ratings and is frequently recommended as an introductory episode, despite being unlike most of the series. It is often referenced in fandom spaces, with many non-fans being familiar with the Doctor's Easter Egg monologue.
Oft-quoted lines from the Easter Egg include the following:
- "The angels have the phone box."
- "Don't blink. Don't even blink. Blink and you're dead."
- "A big ball of wibbly wobbly, timey wimey stuff."
Trope
In addition to memes, Blink is also responsible for an AU trope in which Rose Tyler finds the Doctor in 1969. Examples of this are listed on this page, as they are episode fanworks.
The Doctor and Martha were trapped in 1969 for months, inspiring events such as The 1969 Ficathon.
