Through Love's Door... One More Time is a slash 175-page novel by Pantha.

Zine's Dedication

This zine is dedicated to my friends Carol and Marian, without whose feedback, encouragement, instigation, inspiration, thoughts, and banter, I would have stopped at the conclusion of the last issue - if not the first. Discussion and sharing is what fuels these endeavors and I still can't believe they managed to get out of me three zines' worth when my inclination was for none.

Summary

For months, Jack and Daniel have been planning their next leave, to have a proper honeymoon, but mission after mission kept popping up to delay it. Now, doubts and fears seem to have crept in during the waiting time, and these two men, who desperately love each other, may be unable to open themselves up enough to speak their hearts and put their relationship back on track. Can anything help before it's too late? [1]

Author's Notes

The author's notes focus on the changes in the show, their dissatisfaction with those changes, and the emotional and characterization jossing that they feel has evolved.

Since this zine was way over a year in the making and things have changed so dramatically with the advent of season four, I felt I should say something about its genesis. If you are new to this slash series, the stories might not even seem possible given what we've seen this last year. But, from the beginning, each of these stories was executed, or at least conceived at the time of the airing of the episode involved. The amazing thing and the most fun part about doing this series of stories was how well the episodes fit in with how we wished to see this beautiful relationship progress.

At the end of the first zine, I didn't expect to be writing another issue because I kept assuming we would shortly get an episode I couldn't fit in. To my pleasant surprise and delight, we got more episodes that could be explained within the context established in the first zine. Then the same thing happened at the beginning of the third. Once again, the episodes seem to fall right into place and I got this brilliant idea that I could have each of their missions disrupt their plans for a honeymoon and I could procrastinate and not have to write the honeymoon story.

But you know what they say about brilliant ideas and cocky writers... the universe has a way... "Shades of Grey" was the one episode that wouldn't fit into this reality. And while I could ignore the episode in favor of those lovely episodes later in the season, I'm just as happy to let this premise finish up before the big covert mission. That way I don't have to explain later inconsistent elements such as why in three years, Daniel never mentioned doing post-graduate work in the same city that Jack came from or why Jack never used their shared background in his quips about Chicago. Especially since Chicagoans are proud of their quirky, urban-specific bywords or expressions (just think of the banter they could have had). And especially since the Oriental Institute, despite its renown, wasn't their only possible choice.

But more crucial than that is the feet that aside from the rest of third season and maybe a couple of episodes of fourth, the characters are now barely recognizable to me. Where once we had four quarters of a whole (with Daniel supplying the creative solutions, Sam the scientific know-how to implement those suggestions, Teal'c fee alien tactical background support, and Jack fee leadership and practical/tactical expertise), we now have Mary Sue Sam doing the Carter show, with Jack playing the buffoon, Daniel supplying the background decoration in episodes not his own, and Teal'c doing... I don't know what. Don't mean to be harsh, but I'm sorry, that's the way I feel...

I do want to acknowledge that many of you have done a great job explaining away fourth season in your own stories. I'm just not sure I want to even bother to try. Hence, while these characterizations might not be what you see today, I have always tried to make them consistent with the episodes to which they're attached, keeping in mind where said characters would be in light of the progressions in these stories. In the same manner, most of the personal background data we learned after Shades of Gray is not included, except for the occasional background reference which fit enough into my scenario that I could throw into their thoughts...

In any case, I hope you enjoy, because this is and was only a labor of love...
