This too is yuri is a meme originating on twitter and tumblr that alludes to an interview, Yuri made me human, with Iori Miyazawa, author of Otherside Picnic, which popularized the idea of "Yuri of Absence" or "Miyazawa Yuri ideology"
Iori Miyazawa is a yuri writer who is the author of Otherside Picnic, an extremely good book series that is very explicitly yuri. But he is also well known for a number of interviews where he stated some things about yuri that, taken out of context, are extremely funny. The ideology of his that we joke about is the ability to see yuri in anything, the best example is something like how a picture of an empty bench is yuri. There are no girls in the picture, but you can imagine that at one point in time there were two girls sitting on the bench together, so the bench itself is yuri, this is yuri of absence.[1]
One of the earliest examples of the meme was posted by tumblr user arienai in January of 2023, who then went on to explain the meme in the reblogs. Since then the meme has became widely popular on tumblr and twitter, inspiring gimmick blogs and accounts such as Is This Yuri and Himedrilshii.

I actually love the phrase "this too is yuri"... I know it's kind of a meme but something about being able to see the potential for lesbians in every little thing genuinely brings me joy. Like I can go about my day and see something small that reminds me of yuri, and it makes me smile.
