Canon

During the DLC, Thiollier is found near Pillar Path Cross, alone. He is quiet, shy and lacks self-, though he gains some when the Tarnished shares Saint Trina's words with him, causing him to become angry and attack.
He is one of St. Trina's followers and a Tarnished. It is unclear how he became a follower of Miquella, but it likely happened because, at the time, Saint Trina and Miquella were sharing the same body and were likely the same person (it is implied in a trailer and during gameplay that Saint Trina is Miquella's love -both the emotion and the object of affection- and Fate -perhaps as a parallel to Marika and Radagon's marriage or because Miquella would eventually grow into Trina in some form).
Thiollier shows proficiency in poison making and perfume making (of the poison variety), though he also is one of the few characters who can inflict sleep. After snapping out of Miquella's charm, he chose to follow just Saint Trina, whose wish was to have Miquella killed to avoid him being caged by divinity. As such, Thiollier is one of the two possible allies for the final fight against God.
Fandom
Possible connection to Marais Family
It is headcanoned by some fans that Thiollier is related to the Marais family, making him Thiollier Marais.[1]
The reasoning behind this headcanon can be summed up in a few points:
- because of his attacks (poison being a damage over time ailment, similar to rot)
- because of his name (Thiollier is a French name. The other French origin names in Elden Ring come from the Marais)
- his mask (with a head of long braided white hairm like Maleigh's)
- his demeanour towards a female figure of power (St. Trina)
- him being "weak as a kitten" (which many see as indication of sickness)
The Marais are a family of sickly born men. The head of the family, Maleigh, worships Malenia. This is due to him being afflicted with sickness since birth, and being unable to rid himself of it. It's believed that the use of masks by members of the family isn't simply connected to the culture of the land the family is originally from (with many now assuming to be the Land of Shadow), but that it is due to the sickness the family harbours.
Common Ships
Thioller is shipped with the Tarnished, Sir Ansbach and St. Trina.
Common Tropes
Frailty: Due to his own in-game description of himself, "weak as a kitten and thick as two planks", many fans make Thiollier sickly or physically weak. It's noted though, that he's rarely described as unintelligent by fandom.
