The Sound of Silence was a proposed Jim/Blair anthology of fiction by Mysti Frank.

This zine was never published.

About

To begin the SoS series, you must understand several things:

Blair is deaf. The cause of his deafness has not (and may never be) written. The series isn't about how he became deaf, but the fact that he and Jim must deal with the fact that he is deaf.

These segments are only part of the Sound of Silence Universe. I'm writing more segments and connecting scenes which will tie all of these parts into one cohesive whole, which will then be published as a zine called THE SOUND OF SILENCE. It will be available in May at MediaWest*Con.

As I said above, these segments are being written out of order, and thus, you will find repetitions in some segments and characters knowing (or not knowing) things before (or after) they should. All of these glitches will be fixed when I have edited all the parts into one story. While I am deaf in one ear, and my cousin was born deaf, thus giving me a vast wealth of information to draw upon, I can make mistakes, so please do point out any you see. But keep in mind that what's here only represents a portion of this universe and a segment you haven't seen (or I haven't written yet) may explain the problem you have noticed. [1]

The Sound Of Silence Universe, by Mysti Frank. Slash, Jim/Blair. Individual vignettes are finished, but the universe is still a WIP.

(The last URL I have for this, at www.techplus.com/slashvillage/sos/, doesn't seem to be working anymore, if anyone knows if/where it's still available, I'd be grateful for an e-mail.)

It could be argued that this isn't an AU at all but a regular disability fic. But because the cause for Blair's deafness is never explored, even though it probably happens sometime during TS canon, it felt a lot like an AU to me, and it's close enough to the AU genre, that it doesn't feel like cheating to rec it here (which is the only rec page I maintain at the moment). And I enjoyed those vignettes which are dealing realistically (at least to me it seemed that way) with the disability a lot. I don't think the the zine which collects them into one story will ever come out, but this universe stands quite well on its own as it is now. [2]
