Post-STIII. Flashbacks of Kirk's intermittent encounters with his son, as Kirk prepares to tell Carol of David's death. Kirk first learned of David when the boy was five; Carol keeps putting off telling the boy of his father; as a teenager, David is drawn to the New Humans, and an angry final confrontation with "Uncle Jim." Very much in character, believable and well-written.[1]
