Reactions and Reviews
Sentinel and Guide bonding, written in slash and gen varieties, is one of the most enduring tropes to come out of The Sentinel fan fiction. Not only is it a recognized genre within the fandom, but it has been co-opted by writers in dozens of other fandoms, either through crossovers or fusions. It mesmerizes readers who have never even heard of our fandom, driving them to TS trying to find more stories to tantalize them. Which is why I consider it gateway fic. Up front, I’ve got to admit that I’m not fond of the genre, especially in complete AUs where world building is often sacrificed in order to focus on S/G powers and pairings. That said, there are quite wonderful renderings of the concept that even my curmudgeonly self can enjoy. I selected Calista’s, which is one of the first I read that I could actually buy. It’s not for the faint of heart; the universe is cruel and unjust, as feudal worlds often are. But I think if someone is looking for a good representative of this very popular genre, I can recommend this highly. Enjoy.[1]
