Comments from the Illustrator

“Perfect Woman” was a terrifically fun illustration assignment. The story itself was chocked full of romantic angst – which is bread and butter for a fanfic illustrator. On top of that, the narrative provided a unique creative challenge because in it the two main heroines of the series – who looked nothing like each other – where temporarily combined into one person via a freak accident. That meant that I had to find ways to show that this new unfamiliar woman who I was drawing was actually a combination of those two familiar characters, not just an unrecognizable new face I’d come up with out of thin air. I took the opportunity to go a little high concept with my design. All my illustrations other than the one I did for the cover are composed of triads of images to represent the two heroines original personalities and memories combining to form the new persona as well as the conflicts that result from the inevitable love triangle that results from the new woman trying to stay true to both the men from her former lives.
