Notes: This was a "Pilot" issue, designed to test whether or not there was sufficient interest within the U.K. to support a British-based U.N.C.L.E. newsletter. It was circulated to then-current British members of U.N.C.L.E. HQ (the U.S.-based international fan club), former members of HQ resident in the U.K., and U.N.C.L.E. fans who were personal acquaintances of Jay Felton. The 'Letters of Comment' in this issue had not been solicited, and were personal communications Jay had received regarding her decision to step down as coordinator of "U.N.C.L.E. HQ : BRITAIN".

Notes: Contributor Dave Rice supplied everyone who subscribed to this issue with the first edition of an "U.N.C.L.E. Bibliography" he had compiled with the assistance of Barbara Aylett, Deborah Franklin and Diana Watmough. This provided periodical names, dates, and brief summaries for every U.N.C.L.E.-related newspaper and magazine article Dave and his team had been able to identify. It would be revised and expanded many times over the years. When a copy found its way to the desk of U.N.C.L.E.'s Executive Producer, Norman Felton, he honoured Dave with a special, gold U.N.C.L.E. membership card.

Notes:

Pagination: The cover was not included in the page numbering. Consequently, the first page of the body of the newsletter -- invariably occupied by Jay Felton's Editorial -- was always numbered as page 1.

Circulation Figures: Initially, Jay Felton indicated the print run for each issue on the relevant title page. When, however, a demand for back issues presented itself, and the number of copies printed no longer reflected the number stated, this practice was discontinued.

The "Advertising" Section: Here, anyone (subscriber or not) could advertise conventions, fanzines and memorabilia for sale or trade -- or submit "wants" lists. Advertising in The Network was free, although Jay Felton did indicate that reciprocal advertising for The Purple Unicorn Press (her fanzine imprint) would be welcome. Eventually, the volume of advertisements increased to the point where they were eliminated from the body of the newsletter and presented in a separate document.
