The Nanny was a US sitcom revolving around the escapades of Fran Fine, a Jewish fashonista who is hired as nanny to the three children of Broadway producer Maxwell Sheffield. The show is often brought up on modern social media with reference to Fran's wide range of striking fashion choices, and during its run was sometimes the subject of crossovers with other fandoms.

From as early as season one the show began to drop hints of an attraction between Fran and Maxwell, with a potential romance being teased more and more each season. This came to a head in the season 3 finale, when during a potential flight disaster Maxwell tells Fran he loves her. However, he took it back in the following episode and this creates even more romantic angst and tension between them until season 5, when he finally tells her for real and proposes to her. They get married at the end of the season, much to the delight of many fans.

Niles and C.C. are also a popular ship, having a classic belligerent sexual tension dynamic going on through most of the show. The two appeared to hate one another and only trade insults at first, but they ended up sharing several romantic and sexually charged moments, including a kiss. After a turbulent road to romance they ended up dating after Fran and Maxwell's marriage, and would themselves get married in the series finale.
