The Mine is a Star Trek: VOY J/T story by Kathy Altom.

Reactions and Reviews

In this story Kathy focuses on the enthusiasm both Janeway and Torres have for scientific investigations, but it gets them both into a spot of bother. I like this story because it reminds us that Janeway is at heart a scientist, as well as Captain of a starship, and that Voyager was originally a science vessel, something that she also has to remind Chakotay about.

I'm a sucker for a cave story, and the lead up to the intimate moments is gradual and credible. Kathy also considers the ethics of Captain/crewman sex and only when this is resolved do we see any action. There's a nice build up of tension towards the end and Janeway stays in character under pressure (as I would suspect).

There's not a hell of a lot of J/T out there, in contrast to, say, P/K. With two such strong women characters bouncing off each other (emotionally speaking, of course) that's surprising.

In all, a neat, well thought out piece, that deserves another read. [1]
