Reactions and Reviews

Don't know why I didn't review this last time, as it's clearly B/A. Maybe because it was also on the internet. Nice PGP idea (although it takes a while to work out what it is, as we get next to no clues except that A has chained B up, PGP) - the reverse of a popular Avon trope, though Avon usually gets out of it OK. The description of the kiss itself is really over the top, but I actually really like it. Overall - this could stand to be more readable. [1]

This is so deep, I feel like I could read it many many times and each time find something in there I hadn't appreciated or understood before. It's tripping on emotion so much it's quite overwhelming. The struggle both of them seem to be having in communicating is palpable, I held my breath a few times.
The subtle indicator that they are both ageing adds to the atmosphere but even with this, the quips keep coming, as they always would.
'Avon's chaste, corrupt face.' Wow.
There's no self pity in Blake now, it's a very interesting portrayal. He seems clear in his path, for once and in his love for Avon. The connection and thoughts of Vila is touching actually, something missing in the last episode and nice to see here.
'My last hours with him.' Oh that hurts and 'Easier for me to do, Avon, I don't have to live with it.' hurts more. Then there's the nostalgic look at the skylarking in Season 2, destroyed by Avon in Season 4, the innocent times are gone :(. If that's what they were. They were, a little bit. Now Avon is unhinged and there's no going back.
Avon 'I see, Blake. Late but I see.' Blake 'Go outside, child.' he’s cataclysmic, I’d never live through a fuck.
Like I said, so deep ... <3
- The story is pretty dense. Rather too densely written, as I was aware at the time, but on the other hand I love that you find it ripe for re-reads!
- The innocent times are gone, true (and only in retrospect do they look innocent, but they *do* now), and yet I hope Blake achieves something here that probably wasn't possible in those times. Avon is unhinged, it's true, but Blake has thrown him a lifeline, and exits in the hope he can hang onto it. [2]
So much is conveyed here in one conversation! I like that Blake has this physical attraction but it’s secondary to what Avon really needs, which is some absolution combined with a swift kick in the pants. Blake knows this and he’s in a unique position to give it to him. And the kiss itself is very sensual, with Blake realising he really couldn’t have handled more. That line struck me as both funny and tragic, which is how I like it.
I loved the callbacks to Voice From the Past and Orbit and how Vila relates to each other characters we see here having the conversation. First Avon reminding Blake of Vila’s loyalty in Voice From the Past and then the juxtaposition of Avon’s betrayal of Vila in Orbit. And then: Blake sense that Avon needs to unburden himself (it’s not like Avon went around telling the crew about this hehe) and masterfully convinces Avon to do so (in Avon’s own way, of course.) It’s one last service Blake can do for Avon. There was also the “running you” call back about Bartolomew - in which Avon was the one betrayed - very much grounded me in the story.
The last line was perfection. I thought you did a masterful job of setting up the ultimate conclusion so when it happens, it feels earned. I don’t think it could have ended any other way. Tragic, but rewarding, if that makes sense.
Thoroughly enjoyed this one - thank you for writing and sharing it with us!
- I don't know where I was that I didn't reply to this at the time? Fantastic comment, thank you. Yes, my main goal was to ... have a very physical/sensual love from Blake, but have that do heavy work on behalf of Avon.
- And Avon does understand love, and ungrudgingly gives Blake a very sensual moment in acknowledgement.
- Cheers :)[3]

Despite what Blake says, they're grandmasters of the 'I know what you're thinking game, 'so much so that I have to stop and think what they really mean with every exchange. Love it. [4]
