The Horizon Interviews is a 134-page collection of fourteen Blake's 7 interviews that appeared in Horizon Newsletter.

The art is by Tim Pieraccini.

The editors had planned to publish a second edition, but this was possibly complicated by the Blake's 7 Wars.

The Editorial

The editorial was by Diane Gies.

When the Horizon Club printed its first newsletter, way back in 1980, Pat Thomas (our Club President) and I decided that one of the Club’s ambitions would be to do an in-depth interview with as many of the Blake’s Seven cast and crew as we possibly could, to feature as a major part of our Club Newsletters. To date, we have managed to interview all of the regular cast, plus the two most popular of the Special Guest Stars, two important ’Backstage Crew’, writers, and B7's creator, Terry Nation. More are planned.

In the meantime, with all our early newsletters now out of print, and new members joining in increasing numbers, we decided it would be a good idea to print all our early interviews, together with up to date biographies and also some new artwork, in one booklet. As most people seem to have been ordering back N/Ls just to read the interviews, having them all in one booklet seemed sensible (and also saves you £16 - as to buy all the back N/Ls would have cost you £19.50 instead of just £3.50!)

What I have found particularly interesting on re-reading all the interviews, is relating some of the comments made to events that have happened since the interviews. Life has changed a good deal for many of the cast, and it is interesting to relate these changes to some of their interview answers. For example, Josette Simon expressed a wish to get away from TV work and do more theatre, particularly Shakespeare, and perhaps some good films - as we know, she has been getting excellent reviews for her work with the R.S.C. and at the National and has also now done some film work. Another example is Glynis Barber, who said in her interview that she often went unrecognised, even when with other B7 cast members who were recognised. Since starring in 3 series of ’Dempsey and Makepeace’ I don’t imagine she goes to many places now where she isn’t recognised.

Sadly, there is one interview which can never be repeated - Geoffrey Burridge (Dorian in "Rescue") passed away in autumn 1987. We were lucky to have had the opportunity of meeting him when we did - he was a fascinating and charming man.

On a more cheerful note, on reading the interviews you will find one linking theme throughout... a good deal of laughter, (and Italian restaurants of course!!) You will see from the comments in the body of the interviews how often your would-be ’'sensible and efficient' interviewers were reduced to fits of hysterical laughter. Just remembering some of the things that happened during the interviews, not to mention the answers to some of our questions, still brings tears of laughter to my eyes (even after reading them many times, and spending many days... and nights... proof-reading them!) and we hope this comes across to you - these interviews are fun!

I'd just like to end by saying a heartfelt "Thank You" once again to our first 14 interviewees - for their time, for their patience, for their fascinating insights into their lives and work, and for some extremely enjoyable hours in their company. Thank you very much!
