The Five Giants is a Warrior Cats Multi Animator Project (MAP) hosted by Ser (Whiskermoon) with over 50 contributors. After several years of work, the MAP was posted in January 2018 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the series' publication.

It's here. Thank you for all of the support on this project over the years and a special thank you to the Erins; Victoria Holmes, Kate Cary, Cherith Baldry and Tui Sutherland. Thank you for writing the stories and characters that have inspired so many of us for the past 15 years.

Description on video, Ser, 2018.

Content

Unlike most MAPs in the fandom, which attempt to tell a single story about a few characters, The Five Giants is a massive work spanning the entire world and storyline of the series' first 15 years. The video goes through the history of the five warrior Clans one by one, with each artist using a few seconds of animation to illustrate an iconic moment from the books. While every part stands on its own, it is also in conversation with the ones around it, showcasing the complicated web of actions and consequences that bind the characters through the generations.

Production

The original MAP call is now private, so the project's start date is unknown; however, the earliest MAP part was uploaded on November 7, 2015, placing the likely start date in fall 2015. While Ser posted the final video and is most often credited as the host, Callipepla Californica is also named in the opening credits. ObnoxiousGiraffe is credited by Ser as being the original host; presumably the project's changing hands caused at least some of the delays in production. The MAP was broken into 57 parts of 8-12 seconds, which were completed by 57 different artists. (Some artists collaborated on their parts or completed more than one part.)

Most artists' parts were completed in 2016, with a few being done in late 2015 or early 2017. Several parts were redone, likely because so much time passed during production that some animators felt they were now capable of better. With the last part being uploaded in March of 2017, combining all the parts, editing, and creation of the 3-minute end credit sequence took several months.

Reaction & Influence

Due to its long production time and array of well-known artist contributors, by the time The Five Giants was released it had garnered a substantial audience. It has received millions of views and is one of the most well-known Warriors MAPs. As a tribute to both the books and the fandom, the MAP created an air of nostalgia and community, and many of the comments contain personal stories about the impacts of the series on readers' lives and reminiscing about the fandom.
