"The Evils Thereof" is a The Professionals story written by O Yardley. It was published in Unprofessional Conduct 4 in 1994.

Unlike the two previous stories this one is written in the third person.

Summary

The story attempts to tie up loose ends from both Bear Necessity and Necessary Evil. Necessary Evil, for example, brings up many emotional issues (the suicide of Bodie's mother, Bodie's non-relationship with his father, and Doyle's close-knit family life) but leaves them unresolved. One of the main issues the lovers face is that although they've been given permission to be together, they need to eliminate any blackmail possibility by informing family members of their homosexual relationship. This forces Bodie into contact with his estranged father who he has not seen since five and brings up memories of childhood abuse by his deceased mother.

It is the final part in the Bear Necessity series:

Reactions and Reviews

Crossing barriers is the central core or heart of slash. Crossing barriers probably explains why first time scenarios are so prevalent and why established relationship stories so often fail. It is also a strong argument against sequels. Case in point: O. Yardly's Bear Necessities series. The latest story (in Unprofessional Conduct 4 ) has a plot centering on the problem of Bodie's relationship with his father. The connection to the B/D relationship is tenuous and the perfunctory sex scenes every few pages do nothing to help things. No barriers to be crossed in this piece. [1]
