Some Excerpts

TDWFR: I’m sure I speak for a lot of people when I say that you emotionally slaughtered us with your masterpiece of feels, ‘For You Alone I Will Be Weak.’ The early scenes are so wonderfully sprinkled with humour and warmth. Each one is a gem and they all seem to build together to this wonderful emotional conclusion in the end scene with the little girl. Did this idea for the fic start brewing straight after watching Death in Heaven? How long did the process of writing this fic take?

Jontinf: I was inspired by speculation in fandom before Death in Heaven that Orson Pink was actually the great-grandson of Clara and the Doctor with Orson taking Danny’s face after a regeneration. It made me wonder what would have to happen in their relationship for there to be descendants, something that’s unlikely with the show as it is. I was initially conflicted about pursuing the idea, because children are controversial in fandom as well, but fandom is a place you can explore these things and don’t have to abide by the rules or logistics of the show. The scene with the little girl was the first scene I wrote. I enjoyed writing it so much that I became committed to writing an entire story with this ending. The scene is also my nod to the First Doctor’s relationship with Susan. Peter seems quite attached to Susan as well, and it felt right revisiting a similar relationship with his Doctor. Once I developed an outline, writing the story took about two weeks.

TDWFR: We see that you have also written some stories for Merlin as well as Doctor Who. Writing for a new fandom can be a nerve-wracking experience. Have you found your experience so far to be a positive one?

Jontinf: Absolutely. My experience so far with writing for Doctor Who has been really, really good. It’s also nice writing for a pairing that has such an active, creative and passionate fandom. I love that I can look in the ship tag and see new fanart or fic posted every day. Sometimes you find yourself getting invested in pairings or shows with a dire lack of fanworks, and your interest wanes quickly. It’s really true that fans inspire each other and heighten each other’s the enjoyment in media, and it’s famously the case with Whovians.

TDWFR: All writers love to get great reviews. What is the best review you have ever had?

Jontinf: I love reviews that quote something you wrote back at you and tell you specifics of what they enjoyed, what you did right. Which isn’t to say that three word comments or key smashing aren’t extremely satisfying for my self-esteem either. The best reviews I got might have been ones on LJ from a Merlin story I wrote, where a couple of people said they wished I wrote for the show.
