The Catcher in the Rye is a 1951 novel by J. D. Salinger.
In May 2009, an unauthorized sequel called 60 Years Later: Coming Through the Rye by John David California was published in the United Kingdom. Salinger sued the author for copyright infringement, and a U.S. federal court ordered that the book's publication be banned.[1] The case is commonly cited in discussions of the legality of fanfiction.
