The Black Cauldron is a 1985 American animated Dark Fantasy film set in medieval times, based on The Chronicles of Prydain series by Lloyd Alexander.
It is famous for being the first Disney animated film rated "PG".
Due to it's dark nature, the film was not well-received upon released and almost ended Disney's animation studio. It was a commercial failure and was outgrossed by another animated film: The Care Bears Movie.
The studio's next two films: Oliver and Company and The Little Mermaid were more light-hearted in tone and saved the studio.
Due to its commercial failure, the film was not released on home media until 1997.
Canon
Taran, a pig keeper, has his oracular pig Hen wyn stolen by minions of The Horned King. In a bid to save her, he meets Princess Eilonwy, and a sloth-like creature named Gurgi, and disrupts the Horned King's plan to control the world with the fabled Black Cauldron.

Shipping
Taran/Eilonwy is the only active ship in the fandom that isn't crossover, as it is a canon ship (albeit forced), and none of the other characters in the film are even close to Eilonwy's age.
Eilonwy is occasionally shipped in crossover however, with two well-known examples pairing her with Vanessa from The Little Mermaid, and Merida from Brave
