The Auction by LovesBitca8 is a dark Harry Potter fanfiction focused on the Dramione pairing. It was part of the author's Rights and Wrongs series.

In 2024 the author announced that they would be taking down that the fic at some point, because they planned to rework it as an original fantasy trilogy[1].

Summary

Summary on AO3:

In the wake of the Dark Lord’s triumph over Harry Potter, the defeated must learn their new place. Hermione Granger, former Golden Girl, has been captured and reduced to human chattel. Sold to the highest bidder as the top prize at an auction of Order members and sympathizers, she is thrust into the rabid, waiting hands of the Death Eaters. But despite the horrors of Voldemort’s new world, help—and hope—seem to arise from the most unlikely of places.

Unauthorized Distribution of the Fic for Profit

The Auction was one of the stories at the centre of a binding for profit controversy, see 2024 Harry Potter Fanbinding Controversy for further details.

Reactions and Reviews

If you are anything like me, at some point in your life, you have found yourself feeling dubious at the prospect of reading any kind of fanfiction, especially those that deviate significantly from their core narrative. While I can truly understand the feeling, as I have fallen victim to it myself many times, I can now safely say that The Auction has changed that for me.

Julie (AKA @lovesbitca8)and everyone involved in creating The Auction, have flawlessly delivered an unapologetic masterpiece that will forever live in the Dramione hall of fame.

Heartbreaking and emotional, The Auction will take you on a journey through a story of redemption, alliance, and how love is truly the universe’s ultimate driving force. From the story’s pace to the situational and emotional descriptions, every aspect of it is absolutely breathtaking. It will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end.

I cannot recommend this story enough. If you are looking for something to feed your Dramione heart, I highly encourage you to read @lovesbitca8 works. You can also listen to her brilliant podcast Austen, Bronte, and Hugo Walk Into a Bar if you are interested in learning about the process of writing The Auction.[2]

This is a darker Voldemort wins AU of TRTTD. It's very suspenseful, which I like![3]

The Right Thing To Do, All the Wrong Things, and The Auction are my absolute favorite pieces of writing ever. Draco Malfoy in this series is my horny king, and the best Draco in everything I’ve read. The Auction has a special place in my heart because of hard Hermione works to stay alive and keep the Malfoys alive, as well. All the characters in each story are so well written, especially the Malfoys, and I cannot express how in love I am with each little plot detail and connection between the stories.[4]

A saga length classic in the fandom by one of the best writers on AO3. Hermione POV, Voldemort wins, Hermione is captured and is auctioned to the highest bidder, Draco spends a fortune on her … but not for the reasons anyone, including Hermione, thinks.[5]

Fan of Dramione? You’re in the right place. I really enjoyed this one! It kept me engrossed throughout all 325,000 words.

....

This fic was a really incredible piece of work, and I have fallen in love with the writing style of this author- once again.

Expressing my gratitude for this amazing read to the creators: @lovesbitca8 and the pretty-much famous betas for this story: (@saintdionysus and raven_maden.)

Think Manacled, but less crying involved. It was fast-paced and the intricate plot kept me completely engaged the entire read.

There is enough smut to fill any Draco voids you may have in your life (trust me- I know,) and while the slow-burn is a component, it really makes the entire fic better, and the wait is well worth it.

PS While this fic can be read independently, the author suggests reading The Right Thing To Do beforehand, which I believe is a good fic to read anyways. If you can’t wait to take the plunge into The Auction, though, I think we’ll forgive you. It’s quite frankly… irresistible. (:

Happy reading friends.[6]
