Some Excerpts

It was funny, actually, I came down to make sure the kids weren't watching anything inappropriate. And I went, wow. So, I got hooked, because Mulder and Scully were appealing THEN.... <shuddering at memory of fifth season> Now, I admit, when I stumbled into fanfic, I was shocked at the MSR. I was like, are they watching the same show I am? <g>

And then I decided there really was some sort of weird thing going on where different shows are piped in under the same name. Well, I thought Chinga was amusing, but I'm tired of Dolt!Mulder. Or Thug!Mulder. Or SuddenlyBrainDead!Mulder. The man in the pilot who appealed to me was smart, skeptical, but thought outside of the box. you mean, the one who says anything of any importance in his apparttment? The woman in the pilot who appealed to me was smart, strong, tender and tough enough to kick ass when her partner's in trouble. Well, I mean the one who doesn't know his own specialty, who lets people drill holes in his head, for heaven's sake. And Scully, the MD, lets him run around instead of kicking his ass into a hospital! * kassandra shakes head sadly*

I'm of the school that unless I have something major to say, I don't write [feedback]. <bad kassandra> * kassandra hangs head in shame* Although I have a resolution on SlashX to comment on each story.... I confess to writing to Anna and torch, whining for more. But since I'd like to grow up and *be* Anna, I don't think that's unexpected.

My favorite story in genfic, and probably some of my best writing outside one rejected novel, is Complicated Shadows. I wrote that puppy in a week. And it flowed, let me tell you. Everything flowed together perfectly, I had a fabulous editor, and outside of two days where I wrestled with one journal entry in the story, it went like wildfire... I'd rather not go into that in any detail. Marita and I had a misunderstanding at the outset. I had decided at that point to have them on my own webpage and was graceless about withdrawing, which she interpreted as arrogance. I wrote and apologized for any clumsiness in my withdrawal, but....

I only have two [aliases]. Believe it or not. If you listen to Sheryl Martin, I have a gazillion. But I only have two, and one of them is really my name. But I'm not terribly secretive, obviously, or I wouldn't have TOLD! <giggling>

[do characters ever surprise me?]: I started out with one idea that was triggered by a fanfic that shall remain nameless, and tried to decide under what circumstance I could see Mulder becoming a victim. Because I couldn't accept the premise of the nameless fanfic. So, a few months went by, with that rattling around in my head, and I started it, got about eighty pages and then put it on hold. At the time, I was writing genfic, but the community there is......eventful, and I wasn't having fun. So, I finished the genfic I was working on and went back to writing Out of the Dark last October. Oh, yes. There's a scene in out of the Dark where Scully and Mulder have a rather bitter confrontation and they both surprised me.

I don't like getting into arguments about the ethics of Muldertorture. <eg> But if the character doesn't grow or learn--ack.

Oh, my. Well, I'm embarrassed to tell you that I wrote that online AT WORK while multi tasking with databases for a friend.....And the Training of P is precisely that. An unlikely fantasy. Highly stylized. No, the key is that the victim is implicitly consensual by consenting to feel pleasure. And yes, that it's fantasy.
