Tennis RPF is an RPF fandom focused on (mostly) top-ranked professional tennis players on the ATP World Tour and in the Davis Cup.

M/M Slash

Crack Van has posted two introductions to Men's Professional Tennis RPS, one in 2006 and one in 2012. It is a Yuletide-eligible fandom, and stories were written during Yuletide every year from 2009-2013.

Some of the most popular pairings pre-2008 were the rivalslash pairing Roger Federer/Andy Roddick, the best friend pairing of Mardy Fish/Andy Roddick, and pairings based on country of origin, like the Spaniards Carlos Moya/Rafael Nadal and the Brits Tim Henmen/Andy Murray. At this time, most of the fannish activity was on LiveJournal or on mainstream tennis sites like ATP Tennis and Men's Tennis Forums.

The Big Four

The largest section of the fandom is focused on the Big Four: Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray, who were ranked #1-4 in the world from 2008-2012. Within that group, Roger Federer/Rafael Nadal (ranked #1/#2) and Novak Djokovic/Andy Murray (ranked #3/#4) are the most popular, but other pairings within the group also occur. Fandom was still located on LiveJournal and mainstream sites, but with the arrival of the AO3 and its willingness to host RPF/RPS some activity migrated there.

The Spanish Armada

With Rafael Nadal's entrance into the Big Four and the depth of Spanish men's tennis, other Spanish pairings gained popularity, like Feliciano Lopez/Fernando Verdasco and Marcel Granollers/Marc López. David Ferrer was also popular, slashed in multiple pairings both with other Spaniards (David Ferrer/Feliciano Lopez and David Ferrer/Rafael Nadal) and with non-Spaniards (as in David Ferrer/Tommy Robredo).

Het and Femslash

Though the fandom is mostly M/M slash, there is some het and femslash. Het pairings are often male tennis players with their girlfriends or wives, like Roger Federer/Mirka Federer, Andy Murray/Kim Sears, Novak Djokovic/Jelena Ristic, and Rafael Nadal/Xisca Perello. The small amount of femslash in the fandom is usually focused on top-ranked tennis players on the womens' side of the ATP tour, like Victoria Azarenka and Maria Sharapova.
