Ted Carnell was an early science fiction fan.
Douglas Webster's 1942 essay Three Fandoms in England categorized Carnell as a member of England's First Fandom. He took over the fanzine Novae Terrae in 1939 and had it professionally published for its last four issues. In 1949, he and several other fans managed to revive it as a prozine that he edited until 1964. He was Fan Guest of Honor and toastmaster at Cinvention, the 1949 Worldcon.
