The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (Japanese: ゼルダの伝説 ティアーズ オブ ザ キングダム, Hepburn: Zeruda no Densetsu: Tiāzu obu za Kingudamu), frequently shortened to simply Tears of the Kingdom or ToTK in English, is a 2023 action-adventure open world video game, the sequel to 2017's Breath of the Wild, and the 20th mainline title in the Zelda series.

Prior to release, fans had eagerly awaited its arrival. Upon release, the game was a hit with critics and fans alike, and the fandom quickly came alive with fanworks and discussions; somewhat unsurprising after it sold over 10 million copies worldwide in merely three days.

The game allows players to attach different objects together using the Ultrahand ability, something that has lead to several creations in-game, and memes have arisen as a result. The game has also been affectionately dubbed Korok Torture Simulator due to fans putting the Koroks in some questionable situations.

I say with joy that the unique Breath of the Wild feeling of "I absolutely know how this Shrine is supposed to be solved, but I could do it faster with shenanigans," has carried over into Tears of the Kingdom.[1]

Creations

Penis Blast

One in-game creation spread on Tumblr and Twitter in a clip is of a crude man mostly made from wooden planks. Link shoots an arrow at the 'penis' and it emits flames, before the 'testicles' explode, blowing up the whole man, except for the head. The creation appears to be the product of the Twitter user ZAKUYA_BOTW, who uploaded the original clip on the site, seen here. The Tumblr post was uploaded by owldude, seen here.

Fan artist vinnie-cha uploaded a short comic based on the clip, referencing the iCarly smoothie meme.[2]

Due to the clip being uploaded very soon after the game's release, many fans stated it was their first clip of the game they'd seen:

[noirmalls]
Congratulations! This is the first clip that I've ever seen of breath of the wild tears of the kingdom congratulations.

ive managed to avoid spoilers like the plague and somehow this is the clip that broke containment
[va-draws]
Why is this clip and only this clip the only thing about this game that is in all my social media no spoilers no glitches just dick blast

However, it seems this isn't the only 'flaming penis' person created in the game. A few users on the post stated they'd seen other versions:

[thewolfsoul]
Would you believe this is the second time I’ve seen someone make a flaming penis man?
[coffinqueenie]
of the two clips of totk that i have come across so far both have involved makeshift penises

Prior to the game's release, Kotaku reported that an anonymous user had posted a clip on Imgur featuring a different flaming penis person, this one with a rotating head.[3]

A similiar creation by hideyopo, uploaded on Twitter in a similiar time period to ZAKUYA-BOTW, is seen streaming 'water' out of its genitals as opposed to fire.[4]

With the return of Ganondorf as a primary antagonist, a long-standing tradition in the series, interest in Link/Ganondorf rose, especially as Ganondorf's design in TOTK is intentionally "robust and sexy"[2]. Sidon also returns for the Link/Sidon fans, although he's engaged in this installment, as opposed to his bachelorhood in BOTW. Like its predecessor, TOTK features several flashbacks fleshing out Zelda and features some Link/Zelda scenes.
