Whispangle is the femslash ship of Whisper the Wolf and Tangle the Lemur from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise.

Canon

Tangle and Whisper first met when aiding Sonic and friends against Neo Metal Sonic, connecting with each other quickly and beginning to hang out and go on adventures together soon after. The pair became particularly close after facing Mimic, a member from Whisper's old team who's betrayal had left her reluctant to get close to anyone again before meeting Tangle.

When Ian Flynn, one of the lead writers of IDW Sonic, was asked in 2021 on his podcast about Tangle and Whisper's relationship he noted that:

Right now, Sega's official word is we're not really to go into depth with any romantic relationships... so, they're just really, really, really, really, really, really the bestest of friends. Which, I'm just kinda gonna smile, nod, wink, nudge; yes, they're- they're GREAT friends.[1]

Fandom

On June 7, 2023 issue 61 was released featuring a panel in which Tangle and Whisper were shown holding hands in front of a lesbian flag colored background. The panel was quickly spread around the fandom in celebration, with many fans redrawing it in their own style. The moment happening in an issue released during Pride Month was also thought to be a deliberate choice by some, though never technically confirmed. While most were happy with the development there was some discourse with Whisper/Silver fans in the aftermath, notably around the idea that since Tangle and Whisper were now implied to be lesbians that they shouldn't be shipped with men. This caused Ian Flynn to write a thread on twitter basically telling fans to Ship and Let Ship as while he and the creative team considered them to be lesbians they do not have the power to canonizes that fact.[2]
