TanaCon was a 2018 convention created and hosted by YouTuber Tana Mongeau in reaction to being denied a "Featured Creator" badge at VidCon the year prior. Although intended to become competition for VidCon by being a better, more hip alternative, the convention was ultimately a disaster. TanaCon drew considerable negative attention to Mongeau and YouTube even outside of the fandom sphere, with local and national news doing features on the incident.
