As a hulking crab monster, Tamatoa doesn’t get much in the way of shipping, however bestial ships with Moana and Maui do exist.
Tropes and Themes
Tamatoa is often turned human for ease of shipping. He also seems to be self aware, which is common for comedy relief characters. Some writers take advantage of this and use it as an excuse to break the fourth wall. Tamatoa has swapped places with The Little Mermaid’s Sebastian on multiple occasions in fanon, most famously during the Kiss The Girl scene.
