Alt tag images

Learned that adding an Alt tag to an image doesn't always give the tool tip, which is not made obvious in the instructions. If there is a 'thumb' tag or an existing 'caption' then the Alt tag doesn't show on the page as a tool tip. However, screen reading software (I'm assuming) will look for an 'alt' tag when reading the page. If I'm wrong, I'd like to know, so I can do this properly. I think that's correct. It looks like alt is shown (or read) only when the image is unavailable. The alt text appears when you convert the page with https://www.textise.net/. --Potpotkettle (talk) 10:56, 18 June 2022 (UTC)
