Interesting comment on FFA:

Okay. For anyone who doesn't know, what you can find of VC fic today, are the shattered remains of a fandom that Anne Rice pretty much killed in one swoop - she sicced lawyers on the fic writers. Sites closed, fic disappeared (ff.net still won't host it) and a lot of people swore off the VC entirely in bitter regret.

Some of the old fic has returned, a tiny smattering of new stuff is being written but... it's really much less than there was. It also means that some of the fanon, the fixits, the assumptions (such as Memnoch being Lestat having a drug-hallucination brought on by too many junkies, because people have to explain it somehow) don't quite make sense because the meta and "build-up" fic are gone, leaving stuff that counts on the reader understanding unsaid things.
