Talk:Middle-Earth Fanfiction Awards

Bravo, that's a wonderfully informative addition! The thing that definitely needs covering is the initial unequal treatment of slash -- as I recall, when the awards first ran back in 2004, Ainae initially wanted to exclude slash, but was talked into including PG-ish rated slash (together with R-rated het). This distinction seems to have disappeared, possibly with Marta taking the reins. Espresso Addict 22:27, 1 September 2012 (UTC)
- I'm glad it was useful! I've meant to add it for a while, while the sequence of events and the myriad emails and links were fresh in my mind. I think you're right about Marta being the equalizer where slash was concerned. I know minimizing the unequal treatment of sexual content/slash in the MEFAs was always a big deal to her. I can ask her for confirmation.Dawn Felagund 22:31, 1 September 2012 (UTC)
- That would be interesting. Or, I suppose, one could wade through the MEFA Yahoo list archives -- the messages are still there, but the old files of rules/FAQ seem to have been deleted. I'm always unsure, though, about the ethics of referring to messages in a Yahoo group without author permission, especially as the MEFAs list is now closed to new members. - The MEFA Yahoo! Group messages are publicly available, so I've been linking to them. I think this would be thorny territory on a closed group; I doubt I'd link then. If you decide to go wading and want to divide and conquer, just let me know which dates to tackle. ;) Dawn Felagund 02:38, 3 September 2012 (UTC)
