Talk:Metafandom (glossary term)

I see concerns about the naming of glossary terms have been raised on Talk:Complementary Ships. So in the interest of pointing out a potential problem here:

"Second-degree fandom" isn't a widely used term as far as I know. I just threw it out there as a name for the phenomenon based on the Erdős number and the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon. (See: Wikipedia:Category:Separation numbers.) But then I did look up "second degree fandom" on a search engine, and found one or two precedent examples of other fans independently inventing the term in the wild, also referring to this phenomenon of being in the fandom of the fandom of the source--which is a degree of removal from being in a fandom of the source. —PictoChatCyberBully (talk) 18:48, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
