Talk:Kerfuffle
Hah, the kerfluffle spelling in fandom is totally my fault. When I designed the Fandom_Wank homepage, I didn't know the proper way to spell it was kerfuffle and used the alternate spelling. It stuck and it hasn't been changed since, no doubt confusing many Scottish people. -- Versaphile
- I'm not involved with FW but saw this filtered down when people talked about it. And I assumed it was intentional to mark a kerfuffle as "fluff" either a waste of time or a playful argument, likely because I've seen it in fw referencing posts misspelled and the other in more general meta posts, and so I started to use both spellings as well, i.e. "kerfuffle" as the more "neutral" spelling and "kerfluffle" when I just can't take that particular one seriously.--Ratcreature 07:37, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
For kerfuffle coming into fandom: a quick Google Groups search revealed to me that my vague memory of first encountering it 1999ish on alt.tv.x-files and alt.tv.x-files.creative to refer to flamewars in a mocking tone was correct. I really didn't see it come into common usage though, until the early days of fandom_wank on LJ (before it moved).--Deirdre 16:28, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
