Talk:Fangame
Needs Updates/Expansion
This page really only talks about one type of fangame at the moment, i.e., large-scale games that require a lot of time, money, and effort from a team of developers. More and more commonly over the last decade people (usually individuals IME, but some collaborate with other fans) have started making smaller and shorter fangames using free software designed to make this easy to do. I added a sentence in the intro section about this, but it'd be great if we could rework the article to reflect that a lot of different kinds of fangames exist. (And also if we could add more pages to Fanlore about smaller fangames! The FATT fangames I've made pages for are all this type of game, but there's hardly anything else on the wiki currently.)
Potentially useful links:
- Games tagged "fangame" on itch.io
- Itooh's 2019 Micro Fangame Jam
- Rise of the videogame zinesters by Anna Anthropy. I don't recall it talking about fangames specifically (though it's been a long time since I read it), but it was really influential in the Twine gaming scene.
