Talk:Epithet
I know epithets are much reviled in fanfic rants, but sometimes they work well too, shouldn't be positive examples be included also? I'm not a writer, but I think it's partly a POV issue? I mean, with the usual tight POV from a main character in fanfic the epithets are ridiculous because the characters know each other and aren't going to think of the other as "the dark haired soldier" or whatever, but for example from an outsider POV that would be a sensible way someone could refer to that character consistently until they learn the name. And that is an epithet too, isn't it?--Ratcreature 21:55, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
- There's Speranza's story where John has amnesia and thinks of Rodney as "the Canadian" for most of the story.--Nestra 22:02, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
