A Storm in Every Port is a gen 50-page Star Wars novel by Cathi Brown.
Previous Plans
It was originally planned to be a story in the second issue of Hoth or Bust, but that second issue was never published.
It was then planned to become a story in the 1987 proposed zine, "Galactic Chronicles," but that zine also never got off the ground.
"A Storm in Every Port" was, in the end, published as a 1990 standalone.
Excerpt
"In Storm's quarters, Han was seated at the table. Storm was at the servo, getting coffee. He brought the mugs, placing one before Han, keeping the other for himself. "I'm sure by now, you know of the Emperor's plan to build another Death Star, more deadly than the first?" he said, taking a chair. "Well, that's not the only plan he has..."
"Oh yeah?"
Storm sipped at his coffee, quiet for a moment and he stared at Han with haunted eyes. "There is a contract out, you know... on Luke, your friend. It's not common knowledge, naturally."
Solo's hand went inching toward the blaster at his thigh. I knew he'd get himself in trouble, he thought. Where are you, kid? Why are you always taking off on your own? Aloud he said, "Luke! Why the secrecy?"
"Because the more who know of it, the better chance it gets to Vader's ears," the other said. "Vader has always thought of Luke as his personal quarry you see... "
"I get it, then. He doesn't want Vader to know." Han wondered why. It sounded as though the Emperor didn't trust Darth Vader to execute Luke. If so, what was Storm's part in all of this? It occurred to him that he had infiltrated the alliance camp to carry out the mandate, himself. If so, why tell him?
"I'm not here to carry out the sentence, Solo," stated the Enforcer, as if reading the Corellian's mind. "I'm only here to warn. To help, if I can."
"Give me one good reason why I shoud believe that!"
"Because I'm here. Unarmed. At your mercy. I'm telling you this."
"You do have a point there," Solo said, narrowing his eyes. "But why this sudden desire to help?"
For some time, it seemed to Han that Storm waged a battle within himself. Finally, he spoke. "Because... " He looked away. "Luke Skywalker's mother was my mother's sister."
