Stockwell Appreciation Society (SAS) (most often referred to as "The Sassies") was a website with a focus on the actor Dean Stockwell. Stockwell portrayed the character "Al" on Quantum Leap.

The website also had an associated mailing list, see Stockwell Appreciation Society (SAS).

When a fan asked if this was a fan club for Dean Stockwell, one of the Sassie members said: "Well, unofficially. SAS stands for "Stockwell Appreciation Society". The founders decided that since the members would be allowed to speak their minds and be sassy if we wanted to, we could call ourselves "Sassies". SAS is also an injoke now, standing for "Short Attention Span"--we have a habit of discussing a certain topic, then discussing it again a month later not remembering that we'd already talked about it! :-D [1]

The site was a consistent winner of Quantum Leap Fandom Awards.

2002: Intro to Fans

I would like to put forward for your viewing pleasure the URL for the new and improved SAS (Stockwell Appreciation Society) website. It is still under construction, but I'm hoping that Ruthie and I can give it an official launch by the end of this weekend. Although there is not much to see there as of right now, I thought you guys might get a kick out of the theme Ruthie chose for the site. You'll have to make sure you have/download the "Shelley Allegro" font (link to free download provided on front page) in order to get into the full feel of the theme ("Shelley Allegro" is used for main titles on the site; is the closest match to the title for which the theme is about).

And check out the main welcome graphic, created by myself as a way of welcoming visitors in a unique way and highlighting the quirkier side of Dean Stockwell.

"I've found that the most active of the Yahoogroups that are somehow related to QL are the ones for specific actors. For example, The Sassies--which is a group about Dean Stockwell--gets at least 10 or more messages a day. We're a small group, only about 50 members or less, but we're highly active." [3]

ABOUT US: The Stockwell Appreciation Society (or Sassies as we call ourselves), consists of fans who have come together on the net in a Yahoo Group to APPRECIATE the lifestyle and career of Dean Stockwell. Collecting information from articles, interviews, and anything else we can "dig up," we have delightfully discovered that Dean Stockwell is not only the co-star of a well loved TV series Quantum Leap, but he is also a star with an intriguing and inspirational past; not only through his work as an actor, but through many other fields that have interested us as well, such as art, painting, poetry and music.
