What a lovely piece of work - thank you, Bardicvoice! I felt so uplifted reading your story, and you have a very engaging writing style.

Your story is so infused with love and warmth and understanding and forgiveness among all those in S&H's lives, including our two special partners, of course. I enjoyed your literary allusions throughout - especially Denise's revision of Kipling's cat, which was really beautiful and resonated with my life with my wonderful husband.

Huggy Bear's reaction on first seeing Hutch after all these years was priceless ... as were the tailored-made lunches he brought out for them all. And reprising Captain Dobey at story's end was a crowning touch, one that brings Hutch back into the fold and into a working partnership with Starsky.

Your story also brought out some lovely insights into what it means to be a police partner, and accounts for the inviolably close bond of love and trust between them, even over time and distance. I liked that Cheryl and Denise were able to accommodate this special place S&H have in each other's lives, nay, encourage it ... and that this was very much reciprocal. While honing in on the special bond between S&H, you also gave an indepth and convincing portrayal of Hutch's relationships with Denise - and casting Denise as a psychologist gave you scope to understand the situation in a credible and moving way.

It's so refreshing to read a S&H fanfiction interpretation like this one. There's more I'd like to say once I've gathered my thoughts some more. But I just wanted to say something sooner rather than later. I'm going to re-read your story.

On one hand I want to wait until I have my thoughts sorted out to comment, and on the other hand I don't want this story to fall through the cracks of good intentions I never come back to.

So, for now, I'm going to go ahead and tell you that I think you're extremely talented, and I found this story a compelling read. You do the fine detail of emotional expression with a deft hand, conveying some really intense scenes without bogging down, and that is a special gift all by itself. This was a great concept, even though the basic scenario hurts my heart, and you managed it with great pacing, easily accessible original characters, and clear action and settings. So many things to admire in one story!

I did notice you didn't describe the OCs physically (I pull that trick, too) and I appreciated the lack. I think it's part of what made them so engaging -- that we viewed them through the emotions of our guys more than anything.

Loved the story. It was a great reading. Very Starsky and Hutch. I was looking for stories with the guys having families and found this that gave me everything I wanted.
