The story by which I measure all Odo angst fanfic. This is the hallmark of excruciating and, most importantly in this category, *well-written* angst. It's a tricky area in fanfic. Too much angst and the reader is wallowing, even drowning and the story is lost to the emotions. Too little angst and the reader doesn't have real interest invested in the outcome. This one treads that line until literally the last sentence and leaves one feeling actually drained ... but also content and glad to have read it. The style is refreshingly different, told by interior monologue and in a single setting, stark in it's simplicity and well-executed. [1]
