Description

Stage 8 is a club for all fans of that unique experience known as STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION. Set up at UFP Con '88 (27-30 May 1988) we produce 4 newsletters a year, which started in August 1988, and are due out (but don't necessarily appear...) in February, May, August and November.

Stage 8 is based in Britain and will be aimed primarily at serving the needs and interests of British fans of this wonderful series; overseas fans are, however, JUST as welcome!

The concept of IDIC (Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations) will be actively encouraged - so we will welcome positive attitudes and constructive criticism of anyone and anything connected with STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION; while any negative behaviour will be (politely) discouraged. After all, if we don't practice the philosophy at the very heart of all STAR TREK, can we truly call ourselves fans of the series?

My thanks go first to Guy and Richard for first encouraging me to go ahead with this project, and then putting their own reputations on line by accepting the invitation to become our first honorary members; and to Guy for naming the club when I was stuck for something suitable! Thanks are also due to John de Lancie for accepting our invitation to join STAGE 8 when he was over here for Confetti, in August 1988.

Stage 8, for those who are wondering, is the stage on the Paramount lot where the Enterprise bridge is located. We nearly ended up with the name Stage 6, until Guy remembered that in between first and second seasons they were moving the bridge.... All I can say is, "Captain Kirk may have done a lot of things, including ordering the destruction of the Enterprise ~ but even he never managed to move the bridge to a different location!"

"Our ongoing mission" is NOT to split infinitives, but to explore the infinite - there are plans for merchandise, zines, a one-day Con, etc, all in the pipeline. I plan to push this club into being the BEST it possibly can be ~ and hope all of you can take up that challenge, because I can push till I'm blue in the face, but only WE can make that dream come true. Please tell me what you’d like to get out of the club, and we’ll see how many of those suggestions and thoughts we can make into reality - but please remember that the more you put in, the more you get out of it! Volunteers to do ANYTHING, no matter how trivial it may appear, can be sure of a warm welcome, a grateful reception and the reward of knowing they too are helping to keep the concepts of STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION alive and growing in the British Isles.
