Spotify is an audio streaming service founded in 2006. It enjoys worldwide popularity and is used by fans for a range of fannish activities.
Use Among Fans
Due to the wide variety of music available on Spotify, it is a popular service for creating and sharing fanmixes and fannish playlists. The tag Spotify playlist exists on AO3 for fics for which the authors have created a playlist to go with their fic, but many authors do not use any tag and just share the playlist in authors' notes.
Following the announced closure of 8tracks in 2019, many fans moved their 8tracks fanmixes to Spotify or switched to using the platform to create new fanmixes.
