Sons of Anarchy is an American TV show airing on cable TV. It premiered in 2008.

A man in his early 30s struggles to find a balance in his life between being a new dad and his involvement in a motorcycle club.[1]

The show got a lot of praise for using Hamlet as inspiration.

Fandom

SoA fandom doesn't appear to be very big (to the point where as of 2012 it's still considered eligible for Yuletide). It seems to be most active on Tumblr, Twitter/Facebook, on Youtube and in LJ-based communities.

It does help that the show's creator, Kurt Sutter, interacts a lot with the fans. While he did express his discomfort about it, he shoots behind the scenes videos anyway and posts them in his Youtube channel.

Fanfiction

(needs info on what's popular, what tropes, archives)

In slash, fanfic writers tend to use similar conventions that were used in fics where charactewrs served in military before the repeal of DADT (which makes sense if you think about it since the founding members served together) - there is a lot of justification that it's just "brother helping a brother out" and so on.

When it comes to romantic relationships between club members there appear to be two distinct conventions: one, where the characters have to hide their relationship out of fear of being kicked out (or worse), and another one, where the club knows about the relationship and tolerates it as long as the characters don't "flaunt it".

Works Influenced

One of the popular Polish fantasy authors, Jakub Ćwiek, credits Sons of Anarchy as works that inspired his 2012 fantasy novel Chłopcy where Peter Pan's Lost Boys grow up to be members of a motorcycle gang let by Tinkerbell. That alone contributed to making Sons of Anarchy popular in certain circles in Polish-speaking fandom. Ćwiek, being a huge fan himself hosts regular discussions about the show on his Facebook page.
