From the editorial:

Bet you were confused when you saw the cover and the opening poem on the inside! You probably thought, “This was supposed to be funny..." All I can say is, read on. But first, a warning about "Beyond Cute" — the episodes sound best when read aloud in a "Monty Python pseudo-British BBC newscaster" voice. And you will probably notice that we have in no way confined ourselves to being silly; "A Little Holiday", "Genocide", "Hold Back the Rain", "alternatives", and several filks are "serious". I will now be accepting submissions for "Son of Space Oddity", so if you would like to submit something, please do not feel confined to humor. I have chosen not to place the material in order by season, but I'm sure you*'11 have no trouble figuring out which season everything is. One last note on content: you may be troubled that almost the entire zine appears to be by two people — Kelly Hardin and Dree Nagel. The answer to that is that not many other people submitted material (although I am extremely grateful to those of you who did!). However, I am perfectly happy with the way it all turned out.

Reactions and Reviews: Issue 1

The zine is mostly humor but has some serious stories too. The one I was most struck by was the grimly-titled "Genocide." It's actually about Avon and Tarrant being trapped in each other's bodies! (Oh, if only this were a smut story, and they would have to have tantric sex to get switched back, like Avon and Cally in Trust, Like the Soul.) The title refers to the issue of whether, if the mechanism for getting them switched back happens to be fatal to an entire planetary population, they'll go through with it or not. There are wonderful illos by Dani Lane (an artist I greatly admire), showing Avon's body with Tarrant's mannerisms and vice versa. I think she's especially good with body language. [1]

Issue 2

Space Oddity 2 is subtitled, "Son of Space Oddity." It contains 145 pages and was published in August 1988.
