The cover. Shelley's artistry is unquestioned. Spock is perfect. But I wish she hadn't felt she needed to make Kirk so old and fat. To me. Kirk and Spock are forever frozen into the looks and age they were during the three years Star Trek was originating. Unrealistic? Well, we all have our little foibles.
- OLD AND FAT?? Kirk looks OLD AND FAT??? Aaargh! You actually think I purposely tried to depict Kirk as OLD AND FAT?? (What you are hearing is the sound of me running around, flaying arms, screaming...Aaargh!!) If anyone else thinks that somehow this is a trend for Butler art to show Kirk as OLD AND FAT—I have absolutely no words to describe my reaction other than "Aaargh!!" Not OLD, not FAT, not happening, no way, no how, no, no, no. Now I'll tell you what I really think...(should I underline any more?) The next drawing you'll see will be Kirk as a skinny thirteen year old and a virgin (well, maybe not the virgin part)! Ha! That'll teach ya!" [1]
