Siren is a Freeform television series focused on mermaids and the fictional town called Bristol Cove. It aired for three seasons from 2018 to 2020.
Canon
- The coastal town of Bristol Cove, known for its legend of once being home to mermaids, is turned upside down when a mysterious young woman appears and begins wreaking havoc upon the small fishing town to look for her captured sister who was abducted at the hands of the local military. Marine biologists Ben and Maddie work together to find out who and what drove this primal hunter of the deep sea to land.[1]

Fandom
Fanworks immediately started appearing within a few days of the series premiere. Gifs and picspams on Tumblr, fanfiction on Archive of Our Own and Fanfiction.net, and fan videos on YouTube. Fan discussion and speculation of what is to come in the series also appeared fairly quickly on Tumblr.
Ryn, Donna, and Maddie Bishop are most popular characters in the series. Ben Pownall and Helen Hawkins are often discussed or speculated about. The other characters are gifed and discussed much less than the others.
Shipping
Fans immediately started shipping the first two mermaids shown together, later known as Ryn/Donna, however they were revealed to be sisters. Other fans jumped on Ryn/Maddie (also known as Raddie), Ryn/Ben (also known as Bryn), and the polyamorous ship of Ryn/Ben/Maddie (also known as Polymarine). Fanworks have been mainly focused on Ryn/Maddie, Ryn/Ben, and Ryn/Ben/Maddie.
