Sinbad (シンドバッド, Shindobaddo) is a popular character from Magi.
Canon
Fandom
Sinbad is an extremely popular character in the Magi fandom, and depending on the method of measurement, even the most popular one. He is appealing to multiple different kinds of fans for various different reasons; for example, he is popular in multiple slash ships, and fans of het like shipping their female OCs with him. Many, mainly women, like shipping themselves with him so much that Sinbad/Reader has become the 9th most popular ship in the fandom on AO3. He is also very appealing to men, many of whom see him as a powerful, impressive, badass, charismatic and manly character they can respect and look up to.

Still, in some ways he is divisive because he turns from a seemingly good heroic character into one who makes many manipulative and questionable decisions. This is a factor of his character which is liked by many, as it makes him interesting. However, some have grown to hate him because of those things, and some Sinbad fans were disappointed in him as he didn't live up to their expectations of heroics. Other Sinbad fans wish to defend him from criticism.
Tropes
One of the most common Sinbad joke memes is the leaf he wore during his first appearance in Magi. This is usually paired with other tropes for comedic content, such as Sinbad having a party and getting drunk. Wholesome Sinbad content include him being in Sindria together with his friends, the Eight Generals. On the other hand, Sinbad's manipulative nature give the possibility for fanwork in which he is a player in a political battle of minds.
Ships
The most popular Sinbad ship is Sinja, which is also the most popular ship in the Japanese-speaking fandom: it has 4 times the amount of fanwork on Pixiv as the second biggest ship tag. It is also among the most popular ones in the English-speaking fandom. Another popular slash ship is Sinju. Sinbad/Alibaba is also a big tag in the Japanese fandom, but is mostly non-existent in the English-speaking one. Smaller ships include shipping Sinbad with another one of his generals, like Masrur, or enemies, like Kouen. The biggest het pairing with a canon character for Sinbad is shipping him with Kougyoku, but this is a small ship.
As stated before, it is very popular to ship Sinbad with female OCs, and those kinds of fics are the most popular for Magi on Fanfiction.net (from ever since the site enabled ship tagging). There is also plenty of it on Wattpad, and a smaller amount on AO3. Sinbad/Reader fics are relatively big on Wattpad as well as AO3.
