The Shyan-Mini-Bang 2019 was a mini-bang challenge held in the BuzzFeed Unsolved fandom in early 2019. The aim of the challenge was to create works for the Ryan Bergara/Shane Madej pairing in which Ryan was some form of supernatural being.
Background
Given that BuzzFeed Unsolved is in large part a paranormal investigation show, supernatural AUs are incredibly common within the fandom. A particularly common trope is Demon Shane Madej, in which Shane is secretly a demon; hundreds of fics featuring this idea have been posted. Fewer fics exist where both men, or just Ryan, are supernatural. This disproportionate focus on Shane in supernatural AUs is likely what prompted this writing event.
Rules
Works created for this challenge had to meet the following criteria:[1]
- Had to feature Ryan Bergara as a supernatural being
- Had to feature the Ryan Bergara/Shane Madej romantic pairing
- Could not include rape/non-con/torture-porn/underage content
Art created for the challenge had to be complete and fully colored (greyscale would count). Fics had to follow additional criteria:
- 1k minimum and 10k maximum word count
- Written in English
- Posted to AO3
- Complete at time of posting
There was no minimum age limit, though authors were only permitted to post explicit work if they were 18 or older.
