Nagisa Shiota (潮田 渚, Shiota Nagisa) is the main protagonist in Assassination Classroom (Ansatsu Kyōshitsu).
Canon
Shiota Nagisa belongs to Class 3-E, a class made up of the students with the lowest grades in the school. He's assigned to assassinate his new homeroom teacher Koro-sensei, an octopus-like creature that blew up 70% of the moon and threatens to obliterate the next by the end of the year. Nagisa and the rest of the class are promised a 10 million yen reward for whoever can kill the octopus, offering a new chance to Nagisa to change his life. Nagisa, who was previously resigned to graduating from Kunugigaoka Junior High School at the bottom of the barrel, is encouraged by Koro-sensei to also work on his grades instead of only working on assassination. Between school and assassination, Nagisa is kept busy as he works with the rest of his classmates to try and kill Koro-sensei before time runs out.
Nagisa is convinced by Terasaka Ryouma and his friends to commit to their assassination plan. During fifth period, Nagisa notes when Koro-sensei has zoned out by the colour of his face and walks up to the front. He attempts to strike Koro-sensei and is stopped, but reveals a grenade of BBs around his neck as he falls into the teacher, acting as a suicide bomber. Nagisa manages to escape unscathed due to Koro-sensei shedding his skin and putting it around Nagisa as a shield. While Koro-sensei is livid about how no one cared about Nagisa's life, not even Nagisa himself, he praises Nagisa for his execution of the attempt, specifically for acting natural and not drawing suspicion before the moment of truth.
Nagisa discovers a talent for assassination early on with the help of his teachers, Koro-sensei and Karasuma Tadaomi. Due to his ability to blend in and seem unthreatening, he is able to sneak up on others and strike with the element of surprise. He is often compared to a snake or a viper. He is also known to catalog interesting facts and weaknesses about Koro-sensei in a notebook, demonstrating his observational skills.
