Shenghuo Xihua (生活西化, lit. life-westernized) is a term referred to homosexuality. The term is originally used on a review of Everything Everywhere All at Once published on Wenhui Bao, a state-run newspaper, to not directly mention homosexuality. Some Chinese fans who feel the term hilarious then adopt the term to describe homosexuality positively.

Origins

The term is originated from a review of the 2022 film Everything Everywhere All at Once published on Wenhui Bao, a state-run newspaper, on 9 June 2022. The review summarized the plot of Everything Everywhere All at Once:

The film starts with the messy family life of Chinese-American woman [TBD]

The term Shenghuo Xihua is seen as an attempt to avoid directly mentioning homosexuality and indicate the narrative that homosexuality is a "western lifestyle". Some Chinese fans have found it hilarious.
