Shared Crossover Universes, often shortened to SCU, or SCUs, are a type of shared universe, originating from Deviantart.

According to Wolfblade11111, the creator of Guardian-Verse, one of the most popular SCUs as of this writing, an SCU is defined as:

"A Shared Crossover Universe or SCU, is basically the same thing, a mash up of one or more worlds from different franchises into one universe.

However there's some differences.

In an SCU, you not only mash the worlds together but you also mash backstories and lore together to try and form something new but still recognizable to everyone around you."[1]

Elwynn James further describes the Shared Crossover Universe definition as this:

"it usually means images on deviantart that relate to some Big Lore with a Big Universe (or sometimes Multiverse) behind it. usually scenes of a character or sometimes multiple interacting in a fancy woo mcu-esque way."[2]
