From the editorial:

After editing and word processing the thing, I came to the conclusion that this should be dubbed our "Spring Fever" issue. There's a lot of love - of all kinds, from platonic to parental to romantic to intellectual to sloppy gush -- in these pages. We have the conclusions of two serials: Janice Lamel's Turning Points and Paula Freda's "Lords of the Heart." Herein is the next-to-last installment of Mike Winkle's intriguing and imaginative Beyond the Maelstrom, in which finally begin to see the significance of the title. Just wait for the conclusion -- it'll knock your socks off. Marti Schuller's thought-provoking contribution, "Destiny's Design," is a sequel to last issue's fascinating "Portuma." Roberta Stuemke gives us another wonderfully-crafted Willow tale, a virtual epic. My own contributions include an odd Back to the Future tale, "At Very First Sight," as well as this issue's only new to-be-continued story, "Aftermath," a sequel to my Star Wars novel. Turnabout, in which at least one of feat tale's many unanswered questions will begin to be resolved. All in all, I think it's a pretty good plunge back into the waters, and I hope you enjoy it.

And remember, write! Not just stories, mind you -- letters of comment are desperately needed to keep our contributors going. So let us hear what you think, please, and keep our creative atmosphere from becoming a vacuum!i

Also if you have a computer and a modem, come join some of us on GEnie's Science Fiction Roundtable, down in the Fandom Category. We're hanging out there most every morning (or evening, when fee rates are low), and there's a lot of interesting discussion going on.

It was the winner of a 1990 Star aWard for a multimedia zine (containing SW).

From the editorial:

and given the way life has gone during the past two years, I was beginning to think there would never again be a season to do Shadowstar. Since I know others have gone through similar woes, and that many have already heard my troubles, I'll just hit a few of the high points for those of you who haven't heard:

[...]

Herein you will find a combination of tales which have been awaiting publication In either Shadowstar or Fortune and Glory since everything collapsed on us several years ago. You will discover old friends — Paula Freda, Mike Winkle, Catriona Campbell — a new friend — Barbara Peake — and a story in my own SW mythos that I never thought would be publishable. You will find, at long last, the conclusion to Mike's wonderful Beyond the Maelstrom, as well as other adventures and pauses for reflection — but you won't, unfortunately, find much in the way of art. The season for me to present Shadowstar once again occurred only ten days before MediaWest*Con; It was rushed into production In one fast and furious week.

My profuse thanks to the writers who have waited so patiently; to the readers who have been empathetic and supportive during these difficult years; and most of all to Mary Wood and J.R., without whose nimble minds and fingers (not to mention that real nice scanner at J.R.'s workplace), this would never have happened.

Immense thanks as well to my artist brother-in-law, Bruce Bond, who produced the lovely Phoenix gracing our cover at my last-minute begging. Comics readers, keep an eye out for his version of H. Q. Wells' War of the Worlds, coming from Classics International later this year. It not only has his beautiful art, but J.R.'s face as the hero, Thanks, too, to our cadre of last-second (literally) proofreaders, and to a couple of even more patient authors (you know who you are — Sheila and RGB fans, I'm sorry!), whose stories will appear next issue.

How...after literal years of waiting...we're back again like the Phoenix from the ashes. Enough said — let's get reading.

That adventure was only one of many that evolved over the years, and the cartoon which follows is a snippet from one of those escapades, drawn about 10 years ago. A little background explanation is needed for it to make sense....") (Star Wars) (55)
