Serpent's Anime Page, also known briefly as Serpent's Asia POP, was an informational website about anime that was active in the 1990s. By 1999, there was a staff of several other maintainers aside from Serpent.[1]

History

The Wayback Machine's earliest capture of Serpent's Anime Page at the simplenet URL is in October 1997, at which time the URL was in use by an unrelated investing research company. In a capture from July 1998, the page reads, "Gomen!! No page here!!" and explains that a computer malfunction had erased the site. The serpent.org URL fared slightly better. At some point in 1999, the page was renamed to Serpent's Asia POP, and announced its plans to branch out into general Asian pop culture, but by November the serpent.org URL was also defunct. By 2000 it had been replaced with a page redirecting viewers to MangaSeeker.

An image of the site that appeared in issue 32 of Spanish-language magazine PC Top Player shows a hit counter reading "0415008 total unique IP hits since the counter was reset on September 28, 1997." The image also shows links to categories like "Jpop/Seiyuu", "Series Info", "Downloads", "Music" and "Fansub". According to the accompanying article, the site hosted songs, images and videos.

Reputation

When linked from other sites, Serpent's Anime Page was usually cited as being one of the highest-quality anime sites available, and it received several awards from sites like Animecca and Anime Web Turnpike.[2][3]

Rayearth of Rayearth & Seresu's Anime Dimension rated Serpent's Asia POP as "Highly Recommended" based on its large collection of mp3s, but noted that download times were slow and many links didn't work.[4]

Serpent's page not only offers reviews on tons of series, but also downloadable music files (mp3) from various series. The only problem is there's a lot of links that don't work and the server's really slow..."
